Plainview, N.Y., got its start as a farming community, famous for the cucumbers its farmers grew for the nearby Heinz pickle factories. That has since changed. Plainview is not an official town. Rather it is a neighborhood located in the town of Oyster Bay in Long Island, N.Y. It's well-known for its quiet, tree-lined streets, ample park space and strong public schools. Its housing stock is impressive, too. The community is well-known for its strong public schools. The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District operates one high school, two middle schools and four elementary schools for neighborhood residents. Homeowners here can take advantage of plenty of green space, too, including the 19-acre Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park. This park boasts both a children's and an Olympic-size swimming pool. There are also baseball and softball fields, walking paths through wooded areas, tennis courts and racquetball/handball courts.


According to Census data, the population of this community is growing. In 2007, more than 27,000 residents called Plainview home. And these residents tend to have a high income. The median family income in Plainview stood at $121,780 in 2007, according to Census figures.
